How to get here & there

map_responsRESPONS is located in Huaraz, the capital of the Callejón de Huaylas. This valley lies between the Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Negra mountain ranges. This area offers endless opportunities for people interested in exploring the outdoors, and community life.

From Lima and Trujillo there are daily buses to Huaraz. We recommend the companies Movil Tours or Cruz del Sur, which offer high quality transportation. The trip takes about eight hours and costs around $15 US.

To get to RESPONS' office, please tell the taxi driver to go up the 28 de Julio, in the block between Jirón Bolivar and Gamarra (Llévame al 28 de Julio, la cuadra entre el Jirón Bolivar y la Gamarra). Going uphill, we are on the left side of the road; number 821. Click on the map on the right to see the large version.
A taxi (to whichever destination in Huaraz) will cost S/.2,50 or three in the early morning. Bigger and detailed maps of Huaraz are available for free at RESPONS, please ask when you visit us.

To get to Vicos
Getting from Huaraz to Vicos is easy; get a combi to Carhuaz and get out in Marcará; pay S/.2,50. From Marcará, get any transportation up to Vicos, costs are one sol or S/.1,50. Nevertheless, please note that your stay in Vicos needs to be pre-arranged: Vicos is huge and our lodges are scattered around the village, away from the main road. If you pre-arrange your visit with RESPONS, your hostfather from Vicos will come to Huaraz to pick you up and make sure that you arrive safe and well to your temporary mountain home.

To get to Humacchuco
To get from Huaraz to Humacchuco is also pretty easy; take a combi to Caraz and get out in Yungay: pay 4 soles. From Yungay, take public transportation up to Humacchuco, ask for the house of Armando Tito or the community building. Most people around know about the tourism project and you will see the lodges. Again, our project members might be away to their agricultural fields or working in the mountains. Pre-arranging your stay is always the safest way to go.

To get to the Inka Naani
The starting point for the Inka Naani is Pomachaca, on the road between San Marcos and Huari, in Los Conchucos. Buses to Huari can take you to Pomachaca, but please beware that there are no services readily available. If you pre-arrange your stay, local people can wait for you with donkeys or lamas, and a guide.
By the end of the Inka Naani, you are close to the city of La Unión, from where buses depart to Lima or Huaraz, generally in the early morning.

To get to Huaripampa
Huaripampa is about half an hour from Huaraz by combi (small van). You catch the combis on the corner of Confraternidad Oeste and Tarapacá. Please note that our weavers in Huaripampa are also farmers; pre-arranging your visit is wise to avoid dissapointments.
