HP5Two ladies from Huaripampa, a small village close to Olleros (half an hour from Huaraz), have been weaving with natural dies and traditional patterns for several years. To maintain this important tradition, RESPONS offers you the opportunity to get to know these ladies, and visit them in their houses.

Isidora and Santa will show you how they weave, and give a demonstration of dying wool by making use of plants and cochinilla  (sort of an insect that lives on cactuses) to give many different colors to their wool. They will show you several plants they use, that they grow in their gardens (that's how they obtain their environmental sustainability!). And of course, they will give a weaving demonstration on their looms. You may even try it yourself, if you wish!

Naturally, the ladies will be showing you several of their products that are for sale. Buying from them means that you directly contribute to the lives of their family; they are both single mothers. If you are not going to Huaripampa, or you couldn't find the hay you were looking for, please know that in the RESPONS shop we also sell their products.
After a great lunch in one of their houses (guinea pig upon request) you will return to Huaraz, knowing that thanks to your visit these ladies will be able to maintain an ancient tradition. Your visit also contributes to the development of the community through a small donation to their development fund included in the price.

Please make a reservation in advance. One of the weavers will pick you up in Huaraz and take you to Huaripampa by public or private transportation (not included).
