Ecomundo(36)The native Asháninka village San Miguel de Marankiari invites you to get to know the Central Peruvian jungle, an area of exuberant nature with beautiful sceneries and a varied flora and fauna. It is also a very accessible part of the jungle; only a few hours from Lima by asphalted roads.

RESPONS co-operates with the inhabitants of the small indigenous village San Miguel de Marankiari, who have set up a homestay project in order to develop their community without having to leave their traditional lifestyle. A few people from the community gathered and formed a tourism committee, which now organizes intercultural homestays for national and international tourists. They also offer expeditions into the jungle, in co-operation with other native villages (some from other ethnicities).

The homestay project in San Miguel de Marankiari is a great possibility to have an in-depth jungle experience and get in contact with the nature and its original habitants. Nobody knows the local reality, culture, natural resources and traditions better than the locals themselves. They are ready and trained to receive customers into their native lifestyle, and will take you on hikes around the village, teach you about the (ancestral) use of natural resources and let you take part in their daily life.
