We had a great time in Vicos. We really enjoyed having the oportunity to share the everyday life with Julian, dona Maria and their children. We had a lot of talk about our lives, participated in harvest for the pachamanca feast, went for a daytrip and had fun during the pachamanca itself. For me personally, it was also very valuable to hear, how much are Julian and the others really glad for the support they have from the project. I also think, that the principle of rotating the visitors among the families is a great idea. This way, not only the normal family life is minimally disturbed, but also any visitor can get a slightly different feeling and have oportunity to have another experience during the stay.
My best wishes to Julian and his family and all from the project.

On the 15th (or 16th) of September, a group of RESPONSible travellers will leave on the the early morning flight to jungle city Iquitos, for their expedition to the most abundant part of the Amazon: Pacaya-Samiria. Guided by fishermen who sustainably fish a lagoon for over fifteen years, the adventurers will discover this amazing area in-depth: enjoying the most incredible sunsets, wildlife encounters, landscapes and jungle stories.
From now on, RESPONS also offers you trips to the popular south of Peru. Our trips may include highlights like Machu Picchu, Cuzco, Arequipa, the Ballestas Islands and even a City Tour through Lima, but differ from other itineraries for their RESPONSible touch: many local communities will be visited, showing the cultural diversity of Peru, markets will be visited to learn about the agrobiodiversity, and workshops will be attended in several places to learn about weaving, cooking and art. Information is not yet online; but of you are interested please contact us for more information.
It was an incredible experience. The guides were awsome (Basilio, Andrea and Hilario).
Guido also was putting a lot of effort on making sure we were taken care of during the trip. He is a great planner. I also made a lot of new friends... I recommend it.
However, it is also physically demanding, so get some training before you do it.

Thanks to many of you who have nominated RESPONS and Vicos, we will be reviewed by the judging panel of the Virgin Holidays Responsible Travel Awards: the most prestigious of their kind in the world.
Founded and organised by online travel directory www.responsibletravel.com, in association with Metro Newspaper, World Travel Market, Geographical Magazine.
This year the Awards have attracted over 1700 nominations from members of the public for almost 600 tourism organisations and individuals. From these nominations, a long list of 15-20 organisations for each of the 13 Award categories has been compiled.
RESPONS competes in the "best in a mountain environment" category, whereas the tourism committee of Vicos might win the award for "Best accommodation for local communities". Wish us luck!
I enjoyed my time in Humacchuco because... We had a great opportunity to experience life in a high mountain village in the Andes living with the local people. We ate food prepared in an authentic but quite sanitary kitchen and enjoyed the wonderful service provided by our host family.
The lodgings were very basic but clean and comfortable. Armando was a great guide on our hikes to Laguna 69 and the Maria Josefa trail. He related many interesting aspects of local life and lore as we walked.

I recommend Humacchuco highly to those who would like to spend a few days learning about local customs while acclimating to the high altitude environment.
This would be a great spot for someone who was planning on a trek to spend a few days before their trek.
Read what previous visitors write about their experiences!

Arends Family on the Three Civilizations Adventure
Hello, I loved the trip! It really was amazing, and I learned a lot of the family with whom we stayed. It was the most impressive part of most of my trip to Peru for a month.. (Humacchuco)

"The Inca Naani was beautiful! Beautiful views and well organised!"
"We have had a great time in Humacchuco. Our home there was perfect! The guide and his family where so nice. We went up to laguna 69 on our second day. We didn´t get used to the altitude jet, but the guide was so pacient. Thanks for everything!"

It was an opportunity to see how a family in a small agricultural community in the Andes lives and participate in this way of life. (Vicos)We really enjoyed our stay in Vicos. Antulina and Manuel were great hosts and their sons were also wonderful. We especially liked the Pachamanca feast and enjoyed meeting many of the local people. Manuel took us out horse riding on our last day which was very nice. On the bright side none of us got sick. Overall it was a great experience and we liked the guest house on the hill very much.(Vicos)
It was a great opportunity to visit seldom seen ruins in remote areas and experience some amazing scenery along the way. Guido is a very experienced driver and is good company to travel with. He also has alot of knowledge about the sites visited and is happy to share. I would recommend this trip to those who have a spirit of adventure and a desire to have an authentic Andean experience.(Three Civilizations Adventure)
We stayed with a real indigenous family. Upon arrival, we immediately were stuffed with corn, cheese, egg, rice soup, vegetables and meat. The people are very warm, kind and friendly.
In the afternoon, we had a walk to lake Llanganuco through the Huascarán National Park. It was a pity Merel felt ill.
